The Hey What's Ur Job meme template features a comic where characters misinterpret a person's job or interest based on vague descriptions, leading to humorous misunderstandings.
Hey What's Ur Job and Hey What's Ur Interest are memes derived from a webcomic created by artist Mhuyo. The format gained popularity on X (formerly Twitter) in May 2024, showcasing interactions where two characters inquire about a third person's job or interests, only to arrive at a comically incorrect conclusion based on an ambiguous response.
On May 7th, 2024, artist @Mhuyo shared a four-panel comic on X, depicting a scenario where two characters ask her about her job. As a non-native English speaker, she humorously responds that she is a 'con artist,' intending to convey that she is an artist selling her work at conventions. However, the characters misinterpret her response, thinking she is referring to a scammer. The comic quickly gained traction, amassing over 20,000 reposts and 206,000 likes within just four days. Later that same day, Mhuyo provided a template for others to create their own versions.
Following its release on May 7th, 2024, users began sharing variations of the meme, often altering the premise from 'what's your job' to 'what's your interest' or 'what's your favorite X.' Some edits took unexpected and humorous directions. Notably, early versions by users @Will_C_True and @bibblefutzer received significant engagement, with over 230 reposts and 4,900 likes, and 170 reposts and 2,200 likes, respectively, within six days. As the trend continued, other versions went viral, including a misinterpretation meme by @Haysprite on May 9th that garnered over 5,800 reposts and 69,000 likes, and another by @bagplants on May 10th that achieved over 19,000 reposts and 143,000 likes in just one day.
